Hey guys, in this video I am going to show you some solid evidence of ancient machining technology at Hoysaleswara temple. There is something very strange about these pillars. If you look closely, you can see these minute circular marks all around the pillar. These are created as a result of machining the pillar on a lathe, this process is called turning. There is no way to achieve this with chisels and hammers manually. If you look at these pillars, it is crystal clear that they were made with machines. In fact, archeologists agree that these pillars were created in a lathe, but offer no convincing explanation as to how these huge pillars were machined, 900 years ago. Nowadays, we are able to create these fascinating grooves and designs on a lathe, but machining a 12 foot tall stone pillar would be a very difficult job, even today. So, how were these pillars created with amazing perfection in ancient times? Did ancient builders use machines and advanced tools, just like what we use today? If this is true, is it possible that they also carved these machines or tools in this temple?
Here you can see a very strange device in the hands of a god called Masana Bhairava. This clearly represents a type of gear mechanism called planetary gears. The outer Gear has 32 teeth and the inner gear has exactly half the number or 16 teeth, which is precisely how we use reduction gears today. If this were just an imaginary tool, how could the ancient sculptors come up with this gear ratio of 2:1? Even more interesting, we can also see a fastener that goes around this mechanism and is locked in at the center. Today, we use the exact same technology, we use something called a circlip lock or a snap ring to keep these things in place. If historians are right, how could primitive people, working with chisels and hammers imagine such a mechanism? Is it possible that advanced machining technology was used 900 years ago? Is this why, we see such perfect pillars? What’s more interesting is that this god is called MasanaBhairava which means God of measurement. Is it a coincidence that the God of measurement is holding an advanced tool?

I went to Baltimore on a business trip, several months ago, and returned to find a speeding ticket in the mail a couple days later. It informed me that I was speeding on Interstate 95 somewhere outside Baltimore Maryland. A natural emotion came over me…I was pissed at getting a ticket, but I realized my disappointment was compounded by the fact that I didnt have a human to refute with or swear at, but I didnt feel inclined to question a machine.Today congress approval numbers hovers at a dismal 10%, so Im wondering if we would be less inclined to argue or question the actions of our government if an algorithm handled most of the affairs of day-to-day governance and decisions were made on a fact-based analysis of real data as opposed to influence from special interest.There could possible be a tremendous cost savings for everything with less human involvement, from tax filings to paying our annual vehicle registrations. A significant number of court cases could be left to an algorithm (I read this was going on already), based on the severity of the crime, how many prior offenses of the defendant and if the data is correct and everyone received the same sentence there would be fewer claims of unequal treatment under the law.A jury of the defendant’s peers wouldnt have to show up to a brick or mortar courthouse, that requires a huge cost to update and maintain, they could simply use facial recognition technology to appear in front of their monitors for a trial or be sequestered if the judge orders it.General welfare for the less fortunate would truly be based on need, and since all financial transactions will be electronic the government would have a more accurate way of determining how much taxes you pay as well. How many new citizens would we allow into the country? There could be an algorithm for that based on their need and training levels against, where their skill-sets are needed across the country.What about voting? We would have fewer politicians, but we could ensure many more voters if we securely voted from the mobile device or computer we use everyday.All public education can be done online…all citizens will be guaranteed an electronic device to learn. We would cut down less trees since most of our government documents would be paperless.Tremendous fines and criminal charges will be placed on entities that would sell information on citizens.Most sentences would place offenders under approved house arrest with a GPS tracking.How would we wage war to protect ourselves? Well, Switzerland has done a great job of not waging war, but this is when we vote to maintain treaties with countries like the US to avoid war or be well protected in the event of war.Religion would have zero impact on any choices made by government, or in other words, church would be separate from all state affairs.The 230 year old United States Constitution is a document that has stood the test of time and has positively influenced many countries all over the world, but the argument has always been the application and interpretation of the laws where humans are concerned. If a country cedes its sovereign rights to a Google like entity, it will give humans less biased choices to make. Wouldnt it at least be as radical as the American ideal?

Primitive Technology: Natural Draft Furnace


I built a natural draft furnace to test ideas about how hot a furnace could get without the use of bellows. Natural draft is the flow of air through a furnace due to rising hot air. The hot gasses in the fuel bed are more buoyant than the cold air outside the furnace causing them to rise. Fresh combustion air then enters the base of the furnace to replace the rising combustion gasses, keeping the fuel bed burning. This effect increases with: 1. the average temperature of the fuel bed relative to the outside air and 2. The height of the furnace. Two other important factors are the size of the tuyere (air entry pipe) and lump size of the fuel bed as these effect the resistance to airflow through the furnace. The furnace was tested with wood fuel and some ore was melted but produced no iron. High temperature were indeed produced (probably about 1200 c). These types of furnaces were once used for smelting copper and iron ores in around the world in ancient times, usually using charcoal as a fuel and in some cases wood too.
I designed the furnace using a formula from the book “The mastery and uses of fire in antiquity” by J.E. Rehder. It was designed to have a space velocity (air speed within the furnace) of 6 m per minute which is recommended for iron smelting. The furnace was 175 cm in total height but with a height of only 150 cm above the tuyere. The height between the air entry and the top of the furnace is what determines the strength of the draft, the space beneath the air entry is not included in the formula. The internal furnace diameter was 25 cm. The walls were about 12.5 cm thick at the base but got thinner with height. The tuyere (air entry pipe) was 7.5 cm internal diameter and about 20 cm long. The tuyere was placed into an opening in the base of the furnace and sealed with mud. The whole thing took about a week to make due to the slow drying time that was assisted by keeping a fire burning in side it. The furnace was designed to use charcoal (which in this case should be 2.5 cm diameter lumps) but I used wood to test it instead as it was easier to acquire. To test its melting ability, bog ore was found further down the creek and roasted. The roasted ore was then crushed and stored in a pot.
The furnace was filled with wood and lit from the top. The fire burnt down the furnace producing charcoal. On reaching the tuyere the fire then started burning the charcoal. Wood was also continually added from the top along with a few small handfuls of the roasted bog ore (not shown in the video). The temperature of hot objects can be visually estimated from their incandescence. After about an hour, the light coming out of the tuyere was high yellow to white hot indicating a temperature of at about 1200 c. Colour temperature charts vary but white hot is usually given to be at least 1200 c, examples of these charts can be found on the internet for reference. It was uncomfortable to stare into the tuyere and doing so left an after image when looking away, indicating the strength of its brightness. After about an hour and a half the furnace was left to burn out. When opened the next day the tuyere was covered in slag with bits of slag found on the furnace floor also.
This experiment shows that high temperatures can be achieved without the use of bellows or charcoal, which might significantly reduce labour in the production of iron. The furnace was technically easy to build as it was a simple vertical cylinder. When running, the wood added to the top of the furnace converts to charcoal in the upper part of the stack and is consumed in the lower part. The ore I used was new to me, normally I use iron bacteria as an ore. This new ore produced no metallic iron so I’m inclined to use iron bacteria in future. Natural draft furnaces were once used to smelt copper and iron ores in the past, usually with charcoal fuel and less frequently with wood. The main benefit of these furnaces seems to have been the reduction in labour they provide and simplified infrastructure (fewer workers and no bellows required during operation).
